Ingredients

  • 1 can (15 ounces black beans, drained and rinsed)
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs (whole wheat or gluten-free)
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped red onion
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • Burger buns and desired toppings (lettuce, tomato, avocado, etc.)

Instructions

Prepare the Black Bean Mixture:

  • In a large bowl, mash the black beans using a fork or potato masher until mostly smooth but with some chunks remaining.
  • Add breadcrumbs, red onion, cilantro, cumin, chili powder, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper. Mix until well combined.

Shape the Patties:

  • Divide the mixture into two portions and shape each into a burger patty.

Cook the Patties:

  • In a non-stick skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat.
  • Cook the patties for about 4-5 minutes per side or until golden brown and heated through.
